Foam Metal Materials Powering Next-Generation Batteries and Green Hydrogen
Yiyang Feimet New Materials Co., Ltd., founded in 2015 and headquartered in Yiyang, Hunan, raised tens of millions RMB in a Pre-A round led by Haolan Capital. Proceeds will scale capacity for next-generation negative current-collector materials used in power and storage batteries.
Company Overview
Feimet is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the R&D, manufacturing, and sale of foam metal materials and EMI shielding materials. Foam metals are porous metallic structures with low mass, high specific surface area, high open porosity, and low internal resistance combined with mechanical strength and ductility, supporting use across new-energy batteries, petrochemicals, aerospace, filtration, and electrode catalysis.
Technology & Product Platform
Feimet has optimized foam-metal production through a proprietary composite process combining chemical and physical methods that solves the uniformity challenge of deep three-dimensional layers, enabling specialty multi-element foam alloys.
Its ultra-thin foam copper is a three-dimensional, uniformly interconnected structure with low cost and high conductivity, positioned to replace electrolytic copper foil as the negative current collector in semi-solid and all-solid-state lithium batteries. It cuts copper usage, lowers cell cost, and lets engineers adopt more aggressive anode chemistries, relaxing energy-density limits. Foam nickel-iron and nickel-molybdenum alloys serve as anode and cathode materials for water electrolysis, reducing hydrogen cost and improving electrolyzer efficiency.
Market Opportunity
As materials science and process engineering advance, foam-metal applications continue expanding into battery negative current collectors and hydrogen-electrolysis electrodes, with the addressable market projected to exceed RMB 100 billion by 2030.
Commercial Traction
Feimet supplies foam iron-nickel alloy for aluminum-melt filtration in wheel casting to multiple global-leading aluminum-wheel manufacturers, and foam alloys for thermal-management modules in supercomputing and large medical-imaging equipment. On the new-energy side, foam copper has been qualified by multiple global top lithium-battery makers with scaled order deliveries, foam iron-nickel is supplied to flow-battery and liquid-metal-battery companies, and its foam iron-nickel has run stably for more than 9,000 hours in an energy major’s electrolyzer.
Growth Plan
Over the next one to two years Feimet will build a new foam-metal project with 15 million square meters of annual capacity across two phases, backed by the Pre-A proceeds and a digital, intelligent factory. The company has filed six invention patents and twelve utility-model patents.
Investment Highlights
Feimet is a differentiated hidden champion with a defensible composite process and hard-to-replicate three-dimensional porous-alloy capability. It has multiple validated demand drivers across solid-state and semi-solid batteries, novel storage, and green hydrogen, with qualified supply relationships, proven field runtime above 9,000 hours, and a clear 2025 capacity inflection.
