Square-Stack Alkaline Electrolyzers for Global Green Hydrogen
Hyde Hydrogen has received a strategic investment from Aramco Ventures. The deal marks Aramco Ventures’ first hydrogen-sector investment in the Asia-Pacific region and its first investment in China, with Hyde Hydrogen designated an Anchor Project in the firm’s hydrogen portfolio.
Company Overview
Hyde Hydrogen develops pressurized alkaline water-electrolysis systems for green hydrogen. Roughly 80-85% of green-hydrogen cost today is the renewable electricity itself, while the electrolyzer accounts for only about 10% of fixed cost, making improvements in electrolyzer efficiency and modularity the key lever.
Flagship Product: Hydolyser
The company pioneered the world’s first square, slide-in pressurized electrolyzer, branded Hydolyser. A standardized plate-stack design scales from 250 kW to 20 MW within one architecture, offering high efficiency, high dynamic response, easy maintenance, and intelligent control. Hyde Hydrogen ranks number one in China in square-electrolyzer shipments.
Unlike conventional electrolyzers, which are often custom-built, low-consistency, and poorly suited to fluctuating renewable power, Hydolyser is designed natively for variable renewable input, directly addressing the industry’s core cost and adaptability challenge.
Market & Applications
Green hydrogen serves as long-duration storage and a substitute for coal and gas, powering heavy-duty transport, shipping, and aviation alongside industrial decarbonization in refining, chemicals, steel, and metallurgy. Sinopec Capital took a strategic stake in early 2024, now followed by Aramco Ventures.
Traction & Partnerships
Hyde Hydrogen operates across China, Europe, and the Middle East, with deep cooperation with Shell, TotalEnergies, Sinopec, China Energy Investment Group, and Goldwind. The Aramco Ventures round will accelerate technology development and build partner and business networks across the Middle East, Europe, North Africa, and Central Asia.
Investment Highlights
Strategic anchor backing from Aramco Ventures provides validation and global go-to-market access in core green-hydrogen regions. A differentiated, scalable square-stack architecture purpose-built for renewable volatility, market leadership in China, and marquee global energy clients combine with a clear inflection as projects in the US, Europe, and the Middle East reach first large-scale commissioning.
